Shey Phoksundo National park is considered the most beautiful tourist attraction. You can see many endangered species like leopards, musk deer, Himalayan tahr, Tibetian sheep, blue sheep and many others. Shey Phoksundo is the only trans-Himalayan national park in Nepal.  The beauty of little villages alongside the green trees, forest and rivers will mesmerize you. You can also see the bird species like chough, Tibetian snow cock, raven, brown dipper, Himalayan griffon and many others. As you know the magnificent Shey-Phoksundo Lake is the highlight of the trek. You can see the Kanjiroba Himal and Kenjeralwa Himal from Rigmo village near the lake.

Best Season- Shey Phoksundo lake Trek

The trail is very windy. The pre and post monsoon season in the month of March to May and September to October when the weather and temperature is favourable. Summer season from June to September will be very difficult and unfavourable because of rainfall which makes the trail very risky. You can also do Shey-Phoksundo trek in winter also but you have to be very careful because the weather gets extreme and snowy.

Itinerary-Shey Phoksundo lake Trek

Day1: Arrival in Kathmandu

After your arrival in Tribhuvan International Airport. Our representative from the company will pick you up and drive you to the hotel.

Day2: Sightseeing Kathmandu and Trek Preparation

Next day after having your breakfast in the hotel, you can visit Swyambhunath Stupa, Bouddhanath Stupa, Pashupatinath Temple, Kathmandu Durbar Square and other nearby places. You can also buy or rent a trekking bag, boots, trekking sticks and other essential gear at Thamel.

Day3: Drive from Kathmandu to Radii / Fly to Nepalgunj

There are two options to reach Dolpa district from Kathmandu, either you can travel through road taking 26 hours drive to reach Radii or the day you can fly to Nepalgunj and have to stay overnight at Nepalgunj. You have to stay overnight at Radii while travelling through the road.

Day4: Radii to Khadang / Nepalgunj to Jhupal flight

You can have breakfast and have to cross a bridge after walking 10 minutes from Radii. From the other edge of a bridge, you can get a jeep to Tallu. You can see a very beautiful and big waterfall which does not have any name.  After reaching Tallu, you have to walk for 3-4 hours then you can get another jeep to Khadang if you reach before 4 o’clock at Tribeni. The jeep will again take 3-4 hours to reach Khadang. The road is very rough and goes through the riverbanks.

From Nepalgunj you can take another flight to Juphal and trek to Dunai or to SuliGad for around 4 hours.

Day5: Khadang to Kageni

Today, you have to trek for around 10 hours. You can see big rocky hills and Bheri river flowing beside the trail. The trail is risky and very difficult in some places. After 4-5 hours of trek you can reach to Suligad where you can eat very delicious Dhal, Bhat, Tarkari and Achar which is the most powerful meal of Nepalese people then continue after a while to Kageni. Without doubt it will be dark while you reach Kageni.

Day6: Kageni to Jharana Hotel

Today, again you have to trek for around 10 hours. From Kageni you will be walking beside the Phoksundo river flowing very rapidly. You have to cross many bridges and trek through the dense forest and very rough and risky trail. Again after walking 4-5 hours you can reach Chepka where you can have the meal of Dhal, Bhat, Tarkari and Achar which will provide you with enormous energy to trek forward.

The place Jharana Hotel has only two guest houses one is Jharana hotel and another is Samjhana hotel. You might get difficult to find shelter but the people here are very humble and helpful. They will do their best to keep you safe. Again with no doubt you will reach at dark to Jharana Hotel.

Day7: Jharna Hotel to Rigmo Village

Today, you have to trek for only 5 hours. The trail is steep climb. The most steep climb of the whole trail consists of this day. After a steep climb you can reach to HawaGhar from where you can see the very beautiful waterfall which is considered the second most beautiful waterfall inside Nepal. From the same place you can see the glimpse of Phoksundo river and Rigmo village. After seeing the glimpse of the lake, you will get highly motivated and feel very happy and proud that you are very close to your destination.

You can rest there for a while then you can continue your journey. From Hawaghar to rigmo village the trail is very easy, you have to go downhill and walk through the straight and comfortable land. Shey-Phoksundo Lake is just 5 minutes away from Rigmo Village. You can reach Rigmo during the noon and can enjoy and rest another part of the day viewing the lake being very near it or you can hike for lake view-points.

Day8: Shey Phoksundo lake to Chepka

This day you can hike to the lake viewpoint and return to the village, have some meals and trek down upto Chepka. It will take 10 hours to reach Chepka. It will be easy and faster for you because this day will be going down.

Day9: Chepka to Tripurakot / Chepka to Juphal

If you want to continue your trek through land you can trek from Chepka to Tripurakot which will take 8-9 hours. But if you want to travel through air, you have to trek to Juphal for 4-5 hours. The trail separates from SuliGad.

Day10: Tripurakot to Radii / Juphal to Nepalgunj

The trek from Tripurakot to radii will take 9 hours and stay overnight on Radii. From juphal you can fly to Nepalgunj and stay overnight at Nepalgunj.

Day11: Radii to Kathmandu / Nepalgunj to Kathmandu

You can find a bus from Radii bus stop to Kathmandu. It will take 26 hours to reach Kathmandu i.e. almost 2 days. And from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu either you can take a flight to Kathmandu or travel via road.

Day12: Arrival in Kathmandu

You might reach Kathmandu only after 12 PM. Take rest in your hotel.

Day13: Final departure

Our vehicle will drive you to the Tribhuvan International airport.

Note: During the trek you might not be able to eat on time. So, you must carry a lot of ready to items during the trip. And we suggest you to eat a heavy breakfast each day on trek. While returning from Radii you can take a stop at Narayanghat and go to Sauraha for relaxation and to enjoy the success of your trek.
